How are compress pads used?
Users soak the dry pad in toner, stretch it over the face and leave it on for about 3–5 minutes, then remove it and pat in the remaining liquid. Some toner brands suggest up to 10 minutes; the toner's own instructions decide.

How are stretchable compress pads made?
Compress pads are made from thin spunlace nonwoven: fibers are carded into a web, bonded by high-pressure water jets, dried, then die-cut into shaped, perforated pieces and packed dry.

Spunlace (hydroentangled) nonwoven is a fabric made by entangling loose fibers with water jets instead of glue or heat, which keeps it soft and low-lint.

Opening and carding. Cotton, lyocell or viscose staple fibers are opened, cleaned and combed into a thin, even web.

Hydroentangling. Rows of high-pressure water jets lock the fibers together. The fiber orientation and the pattern of the support drum decide how far the fabric can stretch, and in which direction.

Drying and slitting. The fabric is dried, wound into master rolls and slit to width. Compress pad fabric is much lighter than face towel fabric 40–100 gsm (±3%).

What is stretch ratio, and how is it measured?
Stretch ratio is how far a pad extends before it tears, expressed as a percentage of its original length; measure it wet and across the width, because that is how the pad is used.

There is no dedicated standard for compress pads, so agree the method with your supplier in writing.

Mark a 10 cm gauge length across the width of a pad.

Soak it in water or your toner for a fixed time, for example 30 seconds, and let the excess drip off.

Stretch it slowly by hand or between two clamps until the first tear or visible thinning.

Compress pads grew out of Korean and Japanese skincare routines, where soaking cotton in toner and leaving it on the skin for a few minutes is a common step.

Most brands sell compress pads in a printed box or a resealable pouch, counted in pieces or sets, so check which unit a quote uses. A box of 180 pieces of a 3-in-1 layout is 60 sets, not 180 masks.

Q1Are compress pads the same as cotton pads?+
No. Cosmetic cotton pads are dense, layered rounds or squares for applying toner or removing makeup. Compress pads are much thinner, stretch, and are shaped with openings so they can stay on the face for several minutes like a sheet mask.
Q2Do compress pads come pre-soaked?+
No. They are sold dry, and the user or a filler adds the toner. Pre-soaked pads are cosmetic products and need separate compliance work, such as FDA facility registration and product listing under MoCRA in the US.
Q3Can compress pads be reused?+
No. They are single-use: after soaking and stretching, a pad loses its shape and strength. Brands should print “single use” on the pack.
Q4Can I order a custom opening layout?+
Yes. Openings and piece shapes are cut with a die, so custom layouts are possible. Expect a one-off die cost and a new pre-production sample before mass production.
Q5How long do I leave toner pads on?+
Follow the product's instructions. Compress pads soaked in toner are usually left on for about 3–5 minutes, and some brands say up to 10. Pre-soaked toner pads are often wiped on or left for a few minutes. Remove any pad before it dries out.
Q6Why do Koreans use toner pads?+
Toner pads and toner compresses fit the layered Korean skincare routine: they spread toner evenly, and leaving a soaked pad on the skin for a few minutes is a quick alternative to a sheet mask. Stretchable compress pads are the dry, use-your-own-toner version of the same habit.
Q7Do I wash my face after using toner pads?+
Usually not. Most toner and essence instructions say to pat the remaining liquid into the skin and continue with the next step. Follow the instructions of the toner used; the pad itself only carries the liquid.
